“I hope I won’t disappoint anyone.”
You probably know Pete Davidson as one of the youngest faces to ever join the cast of Saturday Night Live, a concert that launched his provocative – and at times controversial – career in stand-up and sketch comedy.
Most of his professional endeavors so far have involved Pete, mostly himself – and Pete is well aware of that.
He spoke about how his perception of him as an actor has affected his career, while also opening up about his next very different role as Joey Ramone in a recent interview with Billboard.
“I’m not like Kate [McKinnon] or Keenan [Thompson] or Chris [Redd] who can make characters and they can disappear into shit, ”said Pete, referring to his SNL costar. “Unfortunately for me, when I’m there, I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s Pete.'”
Pete also spoke about preparing for the role and why he’s a little scared of getting it right.
“I take it really, really seriously and do my research,” Pete said in his interview with Billboard. “Because Joey’s done a little bit of everything and we follow his life, so you’re going to see a little of that. That’s a lot, man.”
As he begins music and singing lessons, Pete said he expects the development of the biopic to be a “really interesting” experience, and he’s excited.
“It’s honestly a dream come true that they are giving Pete a chance,” he continued. “I hope I will do him justice and I hope I don’t disappoint anyone.”
