“I wasn’t going to sit there and take it.”
Whether you like the original charlie’s angels film for its turn-of-the-century girl power vibe or love to dissect the way the characters of Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz perhaps reinforced some gender stereotypes in their quests to take out the bad guys – the movie, for better or worse, is a classic.
But, while the kicking action comedy ultimately turned out to be a fun watch, there was some behind-the-scenes drama. A conflict on set between Lucy and Bill Murray, who also starred in charlie’s angels, made headlines when it was released in 2000.
Lucy discussed the friction and explained what happened on a recent episode of The Los Angeles Times’ Pretty asian Podcast.
The actor said she and Bill were now on good terms, but recounted an incident in which he insulted her using “inexcusable and unacceptable” language in the middle of filming a scene.
“While we are doing the scene Bill starts to throw insults, and I won’t go into specifics, but it just went on and on,” she told podcast hosts Jen Yamato, Johana Bhuiyan. , Tracy Brown, and Suhauna Hussain.
“I was like, ‘Wow, he seems to be looking me straight in the eye,'” recalls Lucy. “I couldn’t believe that [the comments] could be towards me, because what do I have to do with something very important at this time? “
Lucy said she recognized that Bill’s behavior was inappropriate and unnecessary at the time, and defended herself accordingly.
“Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I wasn’t going to sit there and take it,” she continued. “So, yes, I stood up for myself and I don’t regret it. Because no matter how low you are on the totem pole or where you come from, there is no need to condescend or belittle others. . “
“I would not withdraw,” added Lucy. “And I shouldn’t have either.”
Bill had previously discussed rumors of contention with Liu over the charlie’s angels takes place during an interview with The Times of London in 2009.
Looks like the two stars made their peace with their past argument, but honestly, Bill suggesting that Lucy was acting “unprofessionally” when she responded to her alleged temper tantrum at work isn’t pretty. Let me know what you think of all of this in the comments below.
