“I’m not a girl with a lot of likes.”
Lorde quit social media for good reason.
During a new interview on The Zane Lowe Show, she revealed why she stays off social media during a conversation they had about her new music.
“I realized I was trying to find a funny Instagram caption and snap a pic of myself that looked cool and hopefully would get a number of likes,” she confessed.
“It sounds obvious, but it’s done,” Lorde added. “For me, I’m not a girl who gets a lot of likes. I am who I am, and I have to lean on it.
“I think for the last one I was 21 and still love kids,” she continued. “And then the culture started to change and I didn’t know I wanted to change with it.”
Lorde had a decision to make and she chose to quit social media in the past. Even if sometimes she returns temporarily to her Instagram account.
“I didn’t know if I wanted to be a TikTok girl, an Instagram Stories girl, and it was a real crossroads,” she shared.
“I had to say to myself, ‘Do you want to continue being the children? Or do you want to get through that and become an older statesman at 24? ‘ Lorde recalls. “What I really feel like now, what I love, but it took a minute.”
Leaving social media has been great for Lorde. She had already spoken about it in an email she wrote to her fans.
“Being outside of social media makes me feel amazing,” exclaimed the “Stoned at the Nail Salon” performer. “I would like to continue to feel so good, and also build this new really cool zone with you guys.”
Lorde does a great job taking care of her sanity. We can all learn something from her.
